Match Report
Westholme School Mixed-U11A vs  Stonyhurst St Mary's Hall (SMH)
On: Wednesday, 12 May 2021
Venue: Away

The first match for Yr5 since what feels like forever! Excitement- check. Nerves- check. A desire to try as hard as they could? Check. We were all set for the matches.

As all of Yr5 were representing the school today and every child has been playing both cricket and rounders, we made the teams mixed gender, with the assurance to those who were also keen to try the other sport that they would get a go at it next time! Isn't it wonderful to have children who want to play different sports? We believe so!

Stonyhurst had two teams waiting to play us at cricket and one for rounders. They fielded a mixed gender cricket team and a Yr6 girls rounders team. We would certainly be up against it!

On the cricket front, I am delighted to be able to report that every child bowled and batted twice. There were some great shots, there were some not so great shots but we learned and most importantly- had fun swinging the willow. The same was true with the bowling- we bowled some magnificent deliveries and we bowled some, what are known in cricketing circles as, pies.

It was a great learning experience for all involved and we all have a much greater understanding of how to play a game of cricket. Now, the scores? Well in the game that was crucial against their better team, they scored 269 and we finished 5 ahead on 274. Hurrah- our first win of the year! We also won the second game as well!

We are very proud of the whole team who all tried as hard as they could and had fun.
